SAFETY #1: MICROSOFT, SALESFORCE AND ORACLE PLAN TO DEVELOP A DIGITAL COVID VACCINATION PASSPORT (SOURCE: CNBC)

Worldwide vaccination efforts against the COVID-19 virus have started and tech giants Microsoft, Oracle and Salesforce have joined a broad coalition of technology and health care companies to create the Vaccination Credential Initiative (VCI).

The technology would allow individuals to obtain a copy of their immunization records through a digital wallet of their choice, such as Apple Wallet or Google Pay, while those without smartphones would receive paper printed with QR codes containing verifiable credentials.

Mike Sicilia, executive vice president of Oracle's global business units, added that electronic access to vaccination, testing, and other medical records will be "vital to resuming travel and more" and that the process "needs to be as easy as online banking."

A spokesperson for Microsoft told FOX Business that the tech giant has already developed an implementation guide detailing "the use of open, interoperable, and privacy-protecting standards via the SMART Health Cards framework" as part of the VCI.

What do you think about the idea of a Vaccination Passport that would be accepted across the Globe? Do you have concerns about privacy? Share your comments.

SAFETY #2: A YEAR AS AN AMAZON EHS MANAGER (SOURCE: ANUPAMA DENISE)

Anupama Denise is a fascinating and vocal Certified Safety Professional with almost ten years driving EHS improvements across a variety of industries.

On her personal blog, she has documented her transition to one of the most captivating companies in the World: Amazon, providing a rare opportunity to find out what's going on behind the proverbial curtains. In the Global EHS Community, Amazon has received both public criticism and praise for the way it organizes its vast operations, including the safety of their employees.

On her blog, Ms Denise started writing about her new job at Amazon just 3 months into it: 3 Months Later… I Love being an Amazon EHS Manager. I this post from January 2020 she talks about the problems she's observed and the genuine will of the e-commerce giant to solve them. She talks about the company's people and how working for Amazon is different than other organizations.

9 months later, a longer post from September 2020, gives us more insight into her daily responsibilities: A Year as an Amazon EHS Manager – 5 Things I Love About Working for the E-Commerce Giant. The article gives us a rather personal story about how Ms Denise became interested in joining Amazon despite her beliefs and dives into the important topics of leadership, diversity and how data drives everything the Tech Giant does - including safety!

SAFETY #3: SAFETY TRAINING MOVING FRONT AND CENTER AT MID-SIZED COMPANIES (SOURCE: EHS TODAY)

Chris Fanning, CEO of KPA, Inc. provides his opinion on why he sees safety training moving front and center at companies across the US.

The health crisis has triggered a critical need in moving EHS training forward. Another factor influencing the need for mid-sized companies to have a more formal program in place is the perspective of a new US Administration. Fanning says the general consensus is that this administration will be much more regulatory in nature than the last administration. There is an intent to bring on more OSHA inspectors. And he feels that the practice of publicly posting OSHA violations will be resumed.

SAFETY #5: PODCAST - SAFETY AND THE YOUNGER WORKFORCE

Blaine Hoffman's SafetyPro's podcast are among our favorites. The format and length of his broadcasts are perfect and his content is 100% on point.

This episode about Safety & The Younger Workforce is from December 2020. It provides so many essential insights for employers who want to know more about safety and the influx of young employees in the workforce. We believe this upcoming generation tends to learn about safety differently (mobile and AR/VR are essential), is incentivized differently and shows their care for safety in the workplace in many different ways.
