SAFETY #1: WHY SAFETY PROFESSIONALS NEED TO BECOME TECHNOLOGISTS (SOURCE: OH&S)

A recent article published in OH&S and written by an industry veteran clarifies in no unclear terms why EHS professionals should urgently investigate, learn and embrace technology to help them become hyper-efficient at their responsibilities.

Mobile apps such as SkillSignal, connected devices (IoT), artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality and other cutting edge technologies are finding their way to high-risk workplaces, and are likely to stay.

The author, Jack Skidmore, is an industry veteran with 40 years of experience and argues that "technology can transform the way a company mitigates risk, develops EHS strategies, and increases worker productivity and overall satisfaction while keeping employees safe and healthy".

SAFETY #2: TAKING ADVANTAGE OF TRUCK DRIVER SAFETY TECHNOLOGY

(SOURCE: FLEET EQUIPMENT)

A "must-stop" ;-) article for anyone operating a truck fleet! Written by Jason Morgan, editor of Fleet Equipment Magazine.

Watch Jason Morgan interview Charlie Mohn, Director of Innovation at Drivewyze. Drivewyze is known for its weight station bypass technology. The Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) company has sets its sights on disrupting the driver safety market with several new technologies, including driver alerts.

More broadly, the truck driver safety technology has made bounds and leaps this year, with several companies announcing connected telematics to alert to unsafe operation, in-cab cameras and innovating training platforms that provide feedback to drivers.

SAFETY #3: REVISED STANDARD IMPROVES SAFETY OF CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WORKERS (SOURCE: ASSP)

The ASSP (American Society of Safety Professionals) published a revised standard that defines the duties and responsibilities of the parties involved in a multi-employer construction site.

“Risks on construction and demolition sites are dynamic and continuously evolve as conditions, technologies and participants change,” said John Johnson, CSP, who chairs the A10 committee that represents more than 75 organizations. “Enhanced safety performance is achieved when the entire project hierarchy – from the owner to the craft workers – engages in an identified safety process.”

Available on ASSP's online store. USD 110 (or USD 95 if ASSP member).
